ERLANGER, Ky. -- Glen Miller, the superintendent of Campbell County Schools charged with domestic violence against his wife, is retiring from his job, according to the district's board of education.

"Mr. Glen Miller has notified the Board of Education of his intent to retire as superintendent of Campbell County Schools.  Mr. Miller’s retirement will be effective November 1," said Janis Winbigler, board of education chairwoman in a release Wednesday. "Please be assured the Board of Education will be moving forward to quickly address this situation and ensure continuity of leadership. The Board of Education’s primary goal is to ensure the ongoing success of the district."

Miller, 53, was arrested last Wednesday after his daughter called 911 and told dispatchers that Miller hit her mother in the face and neck at the family's Erlanger home.

The girl said she and her mother fled the scene of the attack; the pair then met an Erlanger police officer at a nearby church, the police report goes on to state.

The officer said he observed an injury to the mother's neck. When Erlanger police contacted Miller he told them the injury was the result of an accident.

Police said neither the mother's injury nor statements from the mother and daughter were consistent with an accident.

Miller was charged with domestic violence and booked into the Kenton County Detention Center shortly after midnight Thursday. He was released at about 2 p.m. the same day.

Prior to announcing his retirement, the board of education placed Miller on paid administrative leave.

Miller has been superintendent of Campbell County Schools since June 2011, after serving for about four years as superintendent of the Beechwood Independent School District.

Associate Superintendent Dr. Shelli Wilson was put in charge of the school district in Miller's absence, Winbigler said.

Miller's next court date is Oct. 19.
