COVINGTON, Ky. -- The driver responsible for a deadly Crestview Hills crash that killed one woman and injured another in March 2015 was brought to tears as he received his sentence Tuesday afternoon at the Kenton County Courthouse.

Scott Rains, 33, of Independence, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 10 years for second degree murder, five years each for two counts of criminal mischief and 30 years for aggravated DUI along with a $200 fine and loss of his driver's license.

The Kenton County Police Department said Scott Rains was driving under the influence at 7 a.m. March 9, 2015, when his SUV crossed the median of Turkeyfoot Road near College Park Drive and hit two other vehicles.

Marianne Gerl of Erlanger, Kentucky, the driver of one of those cars, died in the crash. Allison Crossley, the third driver, was injured and taken to nearby St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment.

Rains's attorney said Rains plans to keep a copy of the victim's impact statement as a reminder of his poor decisions.
