CINCINNATI — Cincinnati police and the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office continued Tuesday to investigate the crash that fatally injured Colerain Township Officer Dale Woods, who was struck by a pickup while directing traffic after a separate crash.
Prosecutor's office spokesperson Julie Wilson said the driver who struck Woods had not been charged with a crime.
According to Colerain police Chief Mark Denney and Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, the driver was not impaired, and Woods was wearing his reflective vest. The driver remained on-scene and cooperated with law enforcement after the wreck.
"I speak for the children and I when I say, this has truly been the longest, most heartbreaking and emotional week of our lives," a member of Woods' family posted on Facebook via the Colerain Township Police Department's account. "The outpouring of love, support and compasion we have received from family, friends, coworkers, Colerain Twp. police dept., fire dept, administration, so many other police and fire depts., The Shield and the hospital staff has just been tremendous and appreciated beyond."
