Winton Lake reopened to boating and fishing Saturday morning after the lake closed for a nearby sewage leak earlier in the week.
Great Parks of Hamilton County spokeswoman Jennifer Sivak, said in a news release that the Great Parks staff were tipped off to the leak when they smelled something odd and saw some "discoloration." The lake was closed immediately.
"[The Metropolitan Sewer District] identified the source as an overflowing manhole located north of Winton Lake," a news release from Nikki Ferrell, Great Parks of Hamilton County Social Media Strategist, said. "As crews worked to repair the issue, they discovered a second pipe was blocked, as well."
Once the cause of the leak was discovered, MSD cleared the blocked pipes, contained the overflowing manhole and began to clean the affected areas of the lake.
Cleanup is still ongoing in some isolated areas of the lake, though, and those areas will remain closed through next week.
