CINCINNATI — The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office warns that a male caller has been attempting to scam people while claiming to be a lieutenant with the sheriff's office.

According to police, the caller claims the victim is a wanted person, or has missed a court appearance. He then instructs them to meet him at Sheriff's District Three to pay a fine the victim has incurred.

The sheriff's office, however, does not handle warrants or court summons over the phone, and they advise that no sheriff's deputy would attempt to collect money in this way.

Anyone with information regarding this, and anyone who has received a call like this, is encouraged to contact the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office at 513.825.1500.
