MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio -- Investigators found evidence that a fire at the deserted Rex Ralph Elementary School was set intentionally, police said Thursday.

Multiple crews worked Wednesday night to contain a fire at the deserted Rex Ralph Elementary School, according to Capt. Todd Marshall.

The fire started somewhere in the middle of the building. Some of the lofts and ceilings also caught fire. The extent of damage is not yet known.

No one was injured, but firefighters said they were treating the incident as suspicious due to the building’s longtime state of abandonment and because the old school doesn’t have power, Marshall said.

The Mount Healthy Police Department and the Hamilton County Arson Task Force are now investigating the fire.

The school has been closed since 2010, according to Mount Healthy City Schools.

Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040 or the Mount Healthy Police Department at 513-728-3182.
