MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio – A brazen 12-year-old brought a gun and wine to school this week and told another student he was going to shoot her, Mount Healthy police say.

The boy showed off the gun at the Achieve program, an alternative school for Mount Healthy students, police said.

"Pulled the gun out again, pointed it to another female student and said, 'I'm gonna shoot you.' He again put it back in his waist band and starting laughing and giggling," said  Sgt. Greg  Nolte.

It turned out to be a fake gun, but Nolte said the officers didn't take any chances.

"You have to take every single one of these instances as if it is a real weapon until we find out otherwise," he said.

Police arrested the boy and charged him with aggravated menacing and possession of an object similar to a firearm within a school safety zone. That's right – it's illegal to  have a fake gun  within 1,000 feet of a school.

An alcohol charge was added and the student was expelled from school, officers say.
