MADEIRA, Ohio — A two-alarm fire engulfed a Madeira apartment in flames Sunday morning, damaging nearby properties and injuring one firefighter.
Crews responded to a report of the fire at the 7700 block of Laurel Avenue at approximately 3 a.m.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor leg injury, according to fire officials. No other injuries were reported.
Tenant John Pendergast said that he woke to see flames engulfing “the whole back end” of the building, which includes The Curious Garden and Madeira Choice Meats.
"I lost everything,” Pendergast said. “I'm alive though, thanks to my friends. Because they were like yelling, and it just happened so fast."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
