MILFORD, Ohio – Milford High School is mourning.

"We're all processing and grieving the loss of Lauren," Principal Josh Kauffman said Monday.

Kauffman remembers Lauren Wilfong, a 16-year-old junior, as "just a tremendous young lady …

"Optimistic, an infectious smile. One of those smiles that can light up a room.

"Speaking to students and staff, everyone shared positive, incredible memories of Lauren and just the delight that she brought to our school community."

The Loveland teen was killed Sunday in a head-on crash as she drove on Glendale-Milford Road about 6 p.m.. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators said Lauren ran off the side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line and hit another car head on. The other driver was unhurt.

When students and staff arrived at school Monday, the Clermont County Response Crisis Team was there to help. It was especially trying for Kauffman.

"It's like with your own children. You hate to see them hurting and you hate to see them go through difficult things," Kauffman said.

Lauren was already taking college courses. She had it together, Kauffman said.

"Ambitious. Had a vision for her future and committed to the right things, " the principal said.

"When I’d see her in the office she was just always smiling and just always in a pleasant disposition."

Grief counselors will be back at the school Tuesday for those who need to talk.  Services have not been announced.

Drugs or alcohol were not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
