GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Green Township firefighter Mike Weissmann, who recently received a kidney transplant from a fellow firefighter, unexpectedly died Wednesday, according to fire officials.
"As recently as yesterday, Weissmann was putting up Halloween decorations with his family," a post on social media from Green Township Fire and EMS reads. "His passing was sudden and unexpected, and quite a surprise to us."
Weissmann suffered from chronic kidney issues which culminated in him needing a kidney transplant. Luckily, one of his fellow firefighters was able to donate a kidney too him, which gave Weissmann "a new lease on life."
It is unclear at this time if his death was brought on by further kidney issues.
"Green Township Fire & EMS and Mike’s family thank everyone for their support and interest in Mike’s story," the post reads.
