ELMWOOD PLACE, Ohio — A man is behind bars after police say he threw a toddler to the floor, fracturing her skull.

According to affidavits filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court, a “sudden fit of rage” led 21-year-old Shane Walsh to slam the child to the floor. Beyond a fractured skull, the 16-month-old was found to have bruises and burn marks on her arms.

But that’s not all. Police also believe Walsh may have given the toddler alcohol: The affidavits report she was found with a blood alcohol level of .05.

For reference, a blood alcohol level of .08 is the legal limit before an adult is considered “under the influence.”

Now, Walsh sits in the Hamilton County Detention Center, facing felony child abuse charges.

The relationship between Walsh and the child is still under investigation.

WCPO has reached out to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for an update on the toddler’s condition, and is waiting to hear back.

WCPO will update this story as it develops.
