CINCINNATI -- 9 On Your Side just earned two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, which have honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism since 1971.

WCPO took home the awards for "Best Website" and "Excellence in Social Media."

Regional Murrow Awards are presented to small and large radio, television and digital outlets based on 14 geographic regions. WCPO's region consists of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. No other television station in Cincinnati won an award, but Cincinnati's public radio station WVXU and The Cincinnati Enquirer were also honored.

Regional winners are automatically considered for a national award to be announced in June.

WCPO won the "Excellence in Social Media" award for its live Twitter coverage during the 2017 retrial of police officer Ray Tensing, reporter Amanda Seitz's Twitter and Facebook updates of FC Cincinnati's quest for a stadium, a live Facebook production of Music Hall's grand re-opening and a weekly look inside SHughes closet, produced by Meteorologist Sherry Hughes.

In our submission for best website, WCPO submitted a comic journalism history of Cincinnati chili, our TV special of Fiona the hippo's journey and our weekly news podcast Hear Cincinnati for consideration, among other important investigations.
