CINCINNATI -- The Toys "R" Us near Western Hills Plaza is one of 182 stores the company is closing across the country, according to a court document filed Tuesday.
That's nearly one-fifth of the toy store's U.S. locations, according to CNN , which also reports the company declared bankruptcy in September 2017.
It affects the store at 6251 Glenway Ave. in Green Township as well as a location at the Dayton Mall.
"The actions we are taking are necessary to give us the best chance to emerge from our bankruptcy proceedings as a more viable and competitive company that will provide the next level of service and experience you should expect from a market leader," wrote CEO Dave Brandon in an online letter to the public .
The planned store closures will begin in early February with the remainder of the 182 stores closed by mid-April, Brandon wrote. He added that many other locations will be converted into combined Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores.
