CINCINNATI -- The holidays are a time of cheer and dining, but it's also a busy time for Tri-State firefighters.

Whether families choose to deep fry a turkey for Thanksgiving or overload the oven in the kitchen; fires are all too common this time of year.

Firefighters said they see a 230 percent rise in fires and fire-related incidents from November through December.

The Colerain Fire Department talked with 9 On Your Side to detail tips to help keep families safe.

Two of the most important are to have working smoke detectors in your house and to know where all the exits are.
