CINCINNATI -- Union Terminal’s fountain is flowing again after crews worked for three summers to restore it.

Crews removed the fountain as a part of Union Terminal’s restoration project. About 2,300 pieces of limestone and granite were surveyed, tagged and removed before architects rebuilt the fountain.

Over 50 concrete trucks brought in 450 cubic yards of concrete to rebuild the 8,000-square-foot fountain. The fountain and new pump system now holds 44,000 gallons of water.

Crews rebuilt the fountain to the exact specifications of the original, but the fountain may look slightly different. The fountain’s original pigmented terrazzo with a rustic finish had gradually been lost over the decades.

A ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Union Terminal.
