Tens of thousands of jobs are going unfilled in southwest Ohio this summer.

That's according to the Workforce One Investment Board, a nonprofit dedicated to developing the workforce resources of the region.

Difficulty filling jobs has impacted employers across the state, including West Chester Township.

“We have very few applicants...we’re having trouble filling those 15 or so jobs that are available,” West Chester Township spokeswoman Barb Wilson said.

Justin Gassaway-Steere found a job through West Chester Township by filling out an online application.

He said it may be difficult for young people to apply for jobs because they feel they lack the experience needed.

“People at our age, it’s really tough to find jobs because we don’t have a lot of experience,” he said.

The administrator for Workforce One said many manufacturing businesses are so desperate to hire that the only qualifications include passing a drug screen.
