CINCINNATI — A teenage girl is in critical condition at the hospital after she was hit by a car, according to police.

The 15-year-old was crossing Reading Road between Hutchins and Lexington avenues in Avondale at about 1:40 p.m. when a 26-year-old driver in a 2009 Toyota Corolla hit her, police said. Lt. Brian Norris said the driver stopped and cooperated with investigators.

The teen was driven to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center with injuries that are life-threatening, Norris said. The driver was not injured.

Police said excessive speed was not a factor in the crash. They don't know if impairment played a role.

The teen is not a Cincinnati Public Schools student, according to a district spokesperson.

Reading Road was closed between Forest and Lexington avenues in Avondale due to the collision, police said. The road reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

Police asked any witnesses to call the Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
