CINCINNATI -- With the kids out of school, pools are starting to fill up, including the Oakley Recreation Center's newly renovated pool and sprayground, which will have a grand opening ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The Oakley Aquatic Center remains at the same location of the neighborhood's old L-shaped pool at 3900 Paxton Ave., which closed early in July 2015 for renovation.

The $2.8 million renovation added a sprayground and water slide to the previously existing zero-depth wading pool and diving board, according to April Chappell, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's (CRC) aquatic recreation program coordinator. A renovated playground and parking lot were also included in the project.

"It’ll be an exciting day here in Oakley,” Chappell said.

Chappell recommended that parents attire their children in proper swimwear and keep a watchful eye over them while they are in the water, even though lifeguards are present at the pool.

The CRC is looking for swimmers 15 and older to take the Lifeguard Certification Class. Classes began on May 27, May 31 and June 6, and another will begin July 7.

For information about becoming a lifeguard or to register for a lifeguard screening, go to www.cincyrec.org/pools, email aquatics@cincinnati-oh.gov or call 513-357-POOL (7665).
