CINCINNATI -- The City of Cincinnati is owed about $1 million for reimbursement of police overtime and $575,000 for fire department overtime.

The Office of Performance & Data Analytics discovered the outstanding invoices for reimbursable off-duty details and special events, City Manager Harry Black wrote in a memo to the mayor and city council.

The outstanding invoices for police details to businesses and other privately contracted details go back as far as 2010, and reimbursable fire department overtime goes back to 2013.

Both departments are aware of the issue and working on it, according to Black. The police department "has significantly increased internal collections efforts" and the fire department has begun taking inventory of reimbursable overtime, he wrote.

City officials also plan to improve their process for tracking reimbursable overtime, sending out bills and ensuring they are paid, Black wrote.
