Office manager sentenced for embezzling $380,000

CINCINNATI – A former office manager who embezzled $380,000 from a Cincinnati company was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison Wednesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Katie M. Geers, 32, of Goshen, Ohio, pleaded guilty to embezzling from MMG Corporate Communications, according to a news release. Geers paid back the $380,000 to MMG and also was ordered to pay $82,429.12 to the IRS after pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of filing a false income tax return.

Geers embezzled the funds between March 2011 and March 2016, according to court documents. She used corporate credit card to pay for personal expenses. In one case, she paid $3,217.56 to the Ohio Attorney General's Office for taxes owed by Geers Powder Coating & Media Blasting, a company owned by Geers’ husband.

Geers also was sentenced to three years of supervised release.
