CINCINNATI -- More than 50 volunteers helped a Korean War veteran give his Mount Auburn home an upgrade.
Volunteers painted, pulled weeds and replaced the deck of the home Samuel Jackson has lived in for 54 years.
“It's surprising to have this many people come down to give me a helping hand,” Jackson said.
Cincinnati police officer Robert White was among the volunteers who helped fix up Jackson’s home.
"It allows the community to see us in a different light, and it allows us to see the community in a different light,” White said. “It lets people know we're not just about enforcement. We're trying to help out as well."
Saturday’s event featured volunteers from Charter Spectrum and Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit whose mission is to help create safe housing for everyone.
"We couldn't be more proud to help him out, get his house safe and healthy,” said Charter Spectrum spokesperson Mike Pedelty.
Jackson was grateful for the help and support.
"I don't know what to say. They're doing a beautiful thing -- a beautiful job and I love it,” Jackson said.
