CINCINNATI -- First responders climbed 2,071 stairs on 9/11 to try to save people from the falling, flaming building, Terence Harrison said.

Harrison, an Iraq war veteran and manager of the University of Cincinnati’s Veteran’s Program, said two and a half times around UC’s Nippert Stadium equals that distance.

In its second year, 360 people hit the stairs of UC’s Nippert Stadium Friday for the annual 9/11 commemorative climb.

Jena Vincent, a participant, said she was climbing the stairs to remember the tragic event and the lives lost.

Harrison said he was pleased with the turnout.

“It's humbling like I said for them to take the time out of their schedule to support us and the region,” Harrison said. “We will never forget the events of September 11, 2001.”
