CINCINNATI -- May 2018 is still far away, but Flying Pig organizers are already making major plans for the iconic marathon's 20th anniversary.

"It is the most incredible event that is put on in Cincinnati all year long," Queen City Running owner Joe Brinkmann said Thursday.

And its organizers said at a news conference that it was about to become more incredible. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Cincinnatians and marathon participants will be able to participate in a 20-day festival of community events called "20 Days on the Run."

Marathoners who cross the finish line will also receive a special jacket to mark their accomplishment.

Flying Pig executive director Iris Simpson Bush said nearly 40,000 participants from all over the word attended the 2017 Pig, and Brinkmann said he expected even more for the anniversary.

"We got a group of 600-plus people that train with us, and I know so many have already signed up for next year," he said. "A lot of them have never run the full marathon, but they figure, well, it's the 20th. Why not do it?"

The Flying Pig Marathon will run from May 4-6. To sign up or learn more, check it out online.
