Update: The community, Scripps Howard Foundation and Furniture Fair helped raise $58,000 to feed hungry kids in Greater Cincinnati.

---------------------------

CINCINNATI — More than 80,000 children in the Greater Cincinnati region aren’t always sure where they will get their next meal, according to the Freestore Foodbank.

The Freestore Foodbank’s Power Pack Program provides children with food on Fridays to make sure they have something to eat over the weekend.

Each Power Pack contains over a dozen food items such as whole grain cereals, fruit and vegetable juices, sunflower seeds, oatmeal bars, complete pasta meals and other healthy options.

WCPO 9 and the Scripps Howard Foundation is sponsoring a virtual food drive for the Freestore Foodbank in an effort to support this initiative. WCPO 9 and the Scripps Howard Foundation will match donations up to $12,000.

A $5 donation will provide one Power Pack, and $200 provides one student with Power Packs for the entire school year.
