CINCINNATI -- It doesn’t matter that you haven’t had your turkey yet. The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is gearing up for the holidays with over two million, 100,000 strands of lights.

The light display, which is synchronized to music, was recently named the best zoo light show by USA Today. The zoo’s annual PNC Festival of Light’s display begins Friday evening and runs through Jan. 1.

Thane Maynard, director of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, provided a little perspective as to how many lights this year’s display will feature.

“If folks at home think of their own tree right, where you put on two or three strands... oh no,” Maynard said. “This strand if it’s plugged in, would go all the way to Knoxville, Tennessee, so there is a lot of lights.”

Friday’s opening of the Festival of Lights is only open to zoo members, but the general public can see the display starting Saturday.
