CINCINNATI -- A police pursuit ended Tuesday night with a suspect crashing directly into a stone wall on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine, injuring a pair of women in the process.

According to a news release from the Cincinnati Police Department, 34-year-old Keith Johnson began the chase in Southgate, Kentucky, leading Southgate police into Cincinnati before crashing and injuring both 55-year-old pedestrian Kathryn DeBrosse and 22-year-old passenger Margo Melton at about 6:30 p.m. at 1215 Main St.

Both women were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where police said they were listed in stable condition Tuesday night.

Johnson, who was not injured, was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless operation, driving under suspension and possessing drug abuse instruments. Although the list includes drug charges, police said they did not believe driver impairment was a factor in the crash. Instead, the news release said the crash had been caused by Johnson’s excessive speed.
