SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A Hamilton County deputy was struck by a vehicle on I-71 Saturday night but only suffered minor injuries, according to Hamilton County deputies.
Deputy Herman Oyler was at the scene of a crash south of the Kenwood Road overpass on I-71 at around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
Oyler was standing on the right shoulder of SB I-71 while investigating the crash when he was struck by a man driving a 2001 Pontiac down the interstate. The driver of the Pontiac slowed as he approached the scene of the crash but lost control of his vehicle on the wet roads and struck a Jeep that was involved in the crash.
The Jeep hit Oyler as a result of the collision with the Pontiac, officials said.
The driver was identified as Elliott Murdock, 27. The Sheriff's Office said there was no sign of alcohol, drugs or excessive speed factoring into the crash.
Oyler was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries. No one else was harmed in the incident.
Southbound I-71 was closed at Montgomery Road for more than three hours on Saturday night.
