CINCINNATI — Campbell County officials said they have recovered and identified the body of a man who went missing in the Ohio River Sunday afternoon.

Officials said 53-year-old David Fleming, of Liberty Township jumped off a boat to cool off in the river during an outing with family. He was not wearing a life jacket and officials said he struggled to swim back to the boat.

Others with him on the boat tried to deploy a life line and jumped in to try to reach him, but he was swept under the surface and did not reappear.

Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies said the wind and current pulled him under the surface.

Dive teams from Boone and Hamilton counties were called in to help search. Boone County Water Rescue and Hamilton County Police Association utilized sonar to locate the man's body below the surface of the water, and he was found at around 7:20 p.m., several hours after he went missing.
