Cincinnati PD win PETA award for saving gosling

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Police Department received the Compassionate Police Department Award Friday.

The award is presented by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals following an incident on May 9 involving officers James Givens and Cecilia Charron rescuing a gosling tangled in a balloon string.

PETA offers tips for helping wildlife on its website . Animal welfare activists suggest celebrating special occasions without balloons, as they usually end up polluting the environment.

The Cincinnati Police Department will receive a framed certificate from the organization.
