CINCINNATI -- The city is working to make its highways smooth with pothole season in full swing.

Crashing into these highway craters can cause significant damage to your vehicle. AAA responded to over 2,000 drivers needing assistance for pothole damage last month.

"A light comes on, or you feel the tire go flat, or you hear it pop it’s a good idea to pull over safely,” said AAA Fleet Supervisor Michael Backman.

Response numbers are necessarily surprising considering the amount of potholes repaired in the city. Cincinnati crews have repaired 800 potholes in the last week.

Backman recommends keeping your distance from the driver in front of you so you can see potholes on the roads.

Drivers should also be aware that puddles can disguise dangerously deep potholes.
