SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Champion spellers from schools around the Tri-State will convene Saturday for a chance to go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The WCPO 9 On Your Side Regional Spelling Bee starts at 9 a.m. for the 66 spellers from the Ohio region and at 2 p.m. for the 53 students from the Kentucky-Indiana region at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in Sycamore Township.

Both Bees will be live-streamed on WCPO.com and an edited version will air March 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. on WCPO 9 On Your Side.

The winner from each region will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in late May.  There, they will compete with hundreds of spellers from across the country and beyond.

Champions from the 190 local schools participating had winning words that included “vainglorious,” “alfresco,” “deglutition,” “zealous” and “pathogen.”
