CINCINNATI -- A Hamilton County assistant prosecutor has been placed on paid administrative leave following a misdemeanor domestic violence charge on Christmas Day, according to court documents.

Police reports indicate that 28-year-old Elizabeth Buller did “knowingly cause physical harm” to a male family member. She was arrested and released the same day on her own recognizance.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters requested that Stephen Wenke be assigned as a special prosecutor in the case, according to court documents. Judge Bernie Bouchard so ordered, ruling that a conflict of interest would make it "inappropriate" for Deters' office to prosecute Buller.

"Our office takes domestic violence seriously and we want to find out exactly what happened," Deters said.

Deters called Buller an exceptional attorney.

Buller is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 3.
