CINCINNATI -- Police arrested a 16-year-old Wednesday and charged him with the March 2 murder of 17-year-old Gregory Thompson Jr., a junior at Purcell Marian High School.

WCPO will not publicize the suspect's name because he is a minor.

Authorities discovered Thompson shot to death outside his grandmother's house on Wabash Avenue; his death sent ripples of grief through the Cincinnati Catholic community in which his family was deeply enmeshed.

Thompson attended St. Joseph School, where his mother is the principal, and three different high schools: Roger Bacon in St. Bernard, a school in Louisville and finally Purcell Marian, where his uncle was a longtime chaplain.

"So many folks have said already, 'Oh, I know the family,' or 'I know the mom,' or 'I've met Gregory,' or things along those lines," Purcell principal Andy Farfsing said Monday. "There's significant connection."
