CINCINNATI -- Several pets were rescued on New Year’s Eve from a Cheviot house fire.
Firefighters from Cheviot, Green Township, Miami Township and Delhi Township responded a house fire on Herbert Avenue that evening.
Crews said heavy black smoke and a fire in the kitchen could be seen when they arrived.
Firefighters said they were able to quick extinguish the fire and got to work searching for five family pets that were missing inside the home.
Three cats were rescued and crews were able to administer oxygen to them afterward because of the heavy smoke conditions in the home.
Unfortunately, crews were not able to save a fourth cat and a dog that succumbed to smoke inhalation.
No other details have been released.
