ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy remains in critical condition Saturday after he was involved in a crash with a Metro bus Thursday evening.
Cpl. Adam McMillan sustained severe head trauma when he and a Metro bus driver crashed at the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Beechmont Avenue, Chief Deputy Mark Schoonover said. The Metro driver sustained minor injuries, according to a Metro spokesperson. Several other drivers were involved in the crash.
McMillan was breathing but was unresponsive when first responders transported him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Thursday evening, according to Sheriff's spokesperson David Daugherty.
The McMillan family released the following statement Friday afternoon:
“At this time we appreciate you respecting our privacy. We do want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of support we have received from the public, particularly Adam’s brothers and sisters at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Please continue to pray for Adam during this time.”
Schoonover said the crash was "very difficult" for McMillan's co-workers.
"The sheriff's office is a big family and when one of our deputies gets injured like this, it's painful for everyone in the agency," Schoonover said.
McMillan, a 19-year veteran with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, was not responding to a call at the time of the crash. There's no word yet on who's at fault.
“Adam’s just a really good guy," Schoonover said. "He goes out and does his job everyday – always gets the job done.”

A Metro spokesperson said the crash occurred on the Route 30X. There were no passengers on board the bus at the time.
Authorities closed Beechmont Avenue in both directions Thursday night as traffic units investigated. The road has since reopened.
