SYMMES TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A driver has been charged in the fatal Symmes Township crash involving a pedestrian, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Mullins, 27, faces a vehicular manslaughter charge in the death of 77-year-old Mary Lahti. Lahti was crossing Humphrey Road in a marked crosswalk Tuesday when she was struck at the intersection of Humphrey Road and Pinto Court, a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

Lahti died Wednesday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to the Hamilton County Coroner.

A news release said Mullins “failed to observe Mrs. Lahti in the crosswalk” and struck the woman with his vehicle at 8:15 a.m. Mullins had been driving eastbound toward the intersection.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not factors in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office, the agency investigating the crash.

Lahti was a resident of Humphrey road, according to the coroner.
