UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The 16-year-old driver killed in a Clermont County crash is Micah Matthews, a student at Clermont Northeastern High School.

School Principal TJ Glassmeyer identified Matthews as the crash victim in a statement released to students and parents.

The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. Monday on State Route 32. Matthews was driving east when she crossed the median into the westbound lanes and crashed into another driver, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 46-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and refused to be taken to the hospital.

Union Township first responders transported the teen to a temporary landing zone for a medical helicopter. A physician pronounced her dead before takeoff, about one hour after the crash.

Glassmeyer released the following statement on the school district's website:

With a heavy heart...

Good morning, we were informed that last night, one of our students Micah Matthews passed away. This is a terrible loss for our school community and Micah’s family. Micah was a fantastic young lady and we will truly miss her. Our main concern is the mental health and well being of our students and families. We will have counselors available at the middle school tomorrow morning, 9a-12p, as well as the first day of school for our students and families to address any concerns they may have. Please feel free to contact me or our Counselor Amy Gillio with any concerns.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in this crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.
