NEWPORT, Ky. -- A local girl leapt from a second-story window to escape her house on Ann Street as it erupted in flames Friday morning.
High winds made it challenging for firefighters to tame the blaze, but the 16-year-old who jumped from upstairs is fine, along with her brother and their pit bull Triton. Their mother and older sister were at work at the time.
The family told WCPO they just moved in about three months ago. The Red Cross is assisting by providing food, clothing and shelter.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
