WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A vehicle struck an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle after a traffic stop, pushing it into the car that was pulled over, police said.

The crash occurred around 3:35 p.m. Sunday on I-75 southbound near Tylersville.

Mark Dardio, 58, of Lima, was traveling southbound on I-75 in the left lane when he lost control of his 2000 Ford F-150 and struck a marked Ohio State Highway Patrol car, operated by Trooper Charles Howard.

Howard's vehicle hit the car he had pulled over, a 2001 Ford Focus, operated by Chase Riechart,16, of Sidney. Both Howard and Riechart were in their vehicles when the crash occurred and were not injured.

Dardio was transported to Westchester General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It is unknown if the trooper’s lights were on at the time of the crash because he had just finished the traffic stops, and both cars were preparing to pull away.

The crash remains under investigation.
