For the third time in less than two weeks — and the seventh time since last November — authorities discovered a credit card skimmer at a gas station pump in Butler County Tuesday afternoon.

The device had been placed in a pump at the BP station at 9171 Union Centre Blvd. in West Chester Township. Authorities also found skimmers at two other stations on Union Centre Boulevard last year.

The person who discovered the skimmer was one of three additional inspectors Butler County recently added to its workforce to fight this spate of credit card information theft.

“We’re sending a message to these crooks that we’re serious about disrupting their criminal activity in Butler County,” said county auditor Roger Reynolds.
