BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio -- The state of Ohio is expected to release a report Tuesday on underweight horses at Hueston Woods State Park.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture and Ohio Department of Natural Resources investigated the condition of horses at Three Bar C Riding Stable after photographs of the horses surfaced on social media.

Mark Chenoweth, the stable's owner, said two of his older horses contracted a virus and lost weight over the summer. The virus, he said, makes it difficult for them to swallow.

Neither was used for trail rides while they recovered, he told WCPO media partner the Journal-News.

The stable is getting ready to shut down for the winter, and Chenoweth told the Journal-News he would be moving the horses to another pasture for the off season. In fact, he said he'd already moved the two sick horses and three others but was told to return them to the stables so they could be examined Friday.

An official report regarding the veterinarian’s diagnosis will be released Tuesday, Brooke Betit, ODNR public information officer, said in a statement to the Journal-News.
