ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A Butler County deputy shot and killed a shooting suspect Tuesday evening, according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m., according to a Butler County dispatcher. Authorities said the initial call was of a report of a man shooting at a moving train. When deputies attempted to engage with the suspect, he fled.
The suspect, Jacob Faulkner, was shot and killed in an ensuring confrontation, Faulkner's family told The Journal-News. Faulkner was a Marine veteran and a New Miami graduate.
No deputies were shot, according to Sheriff Richard Jones.
"It is a tragic situation when life is lost, the preliminary investigation indicate (sic) that it was a justified shooting," Jones said.
The sheriff's office added in a news release that the deputy's names would be released Wednesday.
