MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – One woman is dead after a crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Sunday on Roosevelt Boulevard near Brentwood Street.

Tonya R. Miller, 52, of Middletown, was pronounced dead on the scene. She was traveling west on Roosevelt Boulevard in a 2002 Honda Accord at a high rate of speed, according to preliminary investigations. The police report says Miller lost control, crossed the grassy median and spun into the eastbound lanes of Roosevelt.

Police say Cecelia M. Kakaris, 54, of Middletown, was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy and struck Miller's vehicle on the passenger side. Miller was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her car.

Kakaris was transported to Atrium Hospital with minor injuries.

Speed and failure to wear a safety belt appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.  Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected. The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
