MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- All but one cat survived a massive rescue mission in Middletown on Monday.

Volunteers from Joseph's Legacy animal rescue said they rescued 17 Persian cats on Monday, many who are diseased and injured. One cat was missing an eye, according to the animal rescue's Facebook page.

The oldest cat, aged 15 years, was "not able to go through any treatment" for emaciated and abscessed wounds, worms and fleas, the post said.

The cats are staying at the Monroe Family Pet Hospital and All About PetCare until they are able to stay in foster homes.

The rescue is asking for donations to help fund medical treatment, care and surgeries.
