MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – Middletown police are responding to multiple reports of people paying with counterfeit money.
Someone paid with bogus $20 bills at the Towne Boulevard Wal-Mart Dec. 22, 26 and 27. A fake $20 also turned up at the Towne Boulevard Steak ‘n Shake Dec. 30. Police took the counterfeit bills as evidence.
Police are investigating one man in connection to the bogus bills, thanks to an anonymous tip.
The Secret Service offered some tips for recognizing counterfeit money. Real money has texture and shouldn’t feel totally smooth like paper. Also, hold a $20 bill up to a light and there should be a security fiber bar on the side and a watermark under Andrew Jackson’s face.
Police said that anyone who thinks they’ve received a counterfeit bill should hold onto it and call them.
