Busy Liberty Township street to close again for more road work

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The final leg of road improvements on Yankee Road will resume on March 26, necessitating another extended road closure, The Journal-News reported.

The Butler County Engineer’s Office is reporting Yankee Road will close between Dutchland Parkway and Maple Creek Drive as the final construction phase of the Yankee Road widening gets under way. The project should be completed by the end of May. Construction was suspended in mid-December for the winter and the road was reopened to through traffic.

Access will be maintained for local residents and businesses. Wilhelmina Drive will be closed at Yankee Road necessitating residents of Dutchland Woods and adjoining subdivisions to enter and exit via Dutchland Parkway or Maple Creek Drive.

The north access drive to the Lakota YMCA will also be closed. YMCA access off of Yankee Road will be via the south drive only.

Detours for northbound Yankee Road traffic will be north on Cincinnati Dayton Road and west on Princeton Road to Yankee. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

The $4 million roadway improvement to Yankee Road began last July and favorable weather last year enabled crews to complete the first four construction phases with only the final phase remaining for 2018.

The final leg of the project involves work primarily from Maple Creek Drive south to Dutchland Parkway. For the winter opening, a base and mid-course application of asphalt was laid with temporary striping in place. Once phase five is complete a final surface course of asphalt will be applied to the entire project with permanent lane striping, signing, and signals installed.

The project involves widening Yankee Road between Dutchland Parkway and Princeton Road from two to three lanes — one lane in each direction with a dedicated center left turn lane. A roundabout was constructed at Yankee and Princeton Road and that road opened ahead of schedule. Contractors replaced one bridge and widened another and adjustments were made to the roadway’s vertical profile. Sidewalks will be added between Dutchland and Wyandot Lane and the signals at Dutchland and Yankee will be upgraded.

Funding for the project came from federal and state grants and local Butler County funds.
