HAMILTON, Ohio -- An Ohio police department is calling on everyone to drive responsibly after an officer was involved in a crash with a distracted driver.

A Trenton police officer was struck at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday while returning from a prisoner transport in Hamilton, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page.

The driver admitted to looking at his cellphone and causing the crash, police said. The officer was taken to the hospital and released.

The department posted the following statement:

“As crashes involving distracted driving continue to rise, we encourage all of you to use diligence, follow the law, and drive responsibly for the safety of all motorists on the roadway.”
