HAMILTON, Ohio -- Candles, photos and crosses line the street where police say a driver struck and killed a woman Thursday.

Dozens mourned the loss of 18-year-old Allison Reyes during a candlelight vigil Saturday evening. Police say Steven James Rogers, 59, of Hamilton hit and killed Reyes and seriously injured another woman as they were crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Glenda Hicks, Reyes’ friend, said the 18-year-old was loved by many in the community.

“She’s going to be missed,” Hicks said. “It’s so hard to lose anybody.”

Hicks said Reyes was a “beautiful girl” who loved her family and her 2-year-old son.

“It’s like a dream,” Hicks said. “This should’ve never happened to her. This should’ve never happened to her.”

Rogers faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, possession of drugs and operation of a vehicle under the influence.
