MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — The body of a man who presumably drowned in the Great Miami River on Tuesday night has been pulled from the water, according to WCPO media partner WHIO.

On Wednesday, the Butler County Coroner identified the man as 27-year-old Fritznel Antoine Dean of Middletown.

Middletown Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Spaulding told WHIO that fire and police crews were dispatched about 5:30 p.m. on a report that someone swimming in the river had gone under and did not resurface. A friend who was with the victim confirmed those details for authorities on scene.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said its water rescue unit responded around 6 p.m. Those agencies conducted operations for several hours before they recovered the body from about 16 feet of water.

Spaulding said the man was not wearing safety equipment at the time.
