BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio -- Butler County Common Pleas Judge Craig D. Hedric died Sunday morning at a local hospital. He was 55.

Hedric, 55, was a former prosecutor and defense attorney before he was elected judge in November 2006.

WCPO media partner the Journal-News reported Hedric collapsed at his Liberty Township home, and emergency medical units couldn't revive him.

Born and raised in Oxford, He graduated from Talawanda High School, Miami University and the University Of Toledo College Of Law.

"Just shocked," Greg Howard, a former law partner and longtime friend of Hedric's told the Journal-News on Sunday morning. He said he'd just seen Hedric at breakfast Friday.

"It is just such a loss, not only because he was a good friend, but because he was a good person and a good judge," Howard said.

Hedric became an assistant Butler County prosecuting attorney in January 2001 and held that job until he was elected judge.
